    Description

    This cover has a lot of history and a lot of plays on words. On June 17, 1861, more that a month before First ManassasFederal forces based in St. Louis under the command of Nathaniel Lyon entered the pro-Dixie interior of the state, catured the state capital, and defeated pro-Confederate forces commanded by the governor, Claiborne Jackson, and generali Sterling Price at Boonville. Lyon, who had earlier won applause through the north for his aggressive moves in St. Louis, was now a nationwide hero.The inscription is full of word-play, with references to "an ugly JACK" (Governor Jackson), the sudden appearance of a Lion (Lyon), his jockey PRICE (Stirling Price), only worth a low PRICE (Price, again).
