Description

11 inches high, 9.5 inches wide. Weighs 3 pounds, 5.7 ounces. Dates to circa 1890. No damage or repairs, in perfect condition, includes original servant light. No hallmarks found.
This menorah is not to be confused with the mass produced die-stamped German menorahs made of thin "white metal" or some kind of copper and tin alloy, by firms like WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik). This is an astoundingly high quality piece beautifully cast in pewter, like a fine bronze. The details are crisp and it is quite heavy, also like a bronze. I have never seen anything like this menorah, and I cannot find any other pieces like it that have appeared at auction or are in museums. The finial may seem to look like a "teardrop", but it's actually a simplified representation of a flame, as only menorahs made in Germany had flame finials. Shown in the last photo is a German menorah made of white metal with a flame finial that is in the collection of the Jewish Museum of New York.
With packing this menorah is too heavy to ship by registered airmail outside the USA. It will be sent by priority mail, which comes with a tracking number.
